On August 13, 2016 four members of the Executive Board and Warren Fisher, who paid his own way, traveled to National Harbor Maryland (Washington DC Area) and joined 1139 other NAPS members, which 132 were first-timers, from throughout the United States for the NAPS 2016 National Convention.

Opening Ceremony was held Monday morning with the convention Call to order by the host Branch 531 President Michele Randall. After the Presentation of colors by the U.S. Postal Police, Invocation and so forth, the following personal welcomed us to the area, Quinton Jones Ft. Washington MD Postmaster, Salvatore Vacca District Manager of Capital District, Linda Malone Vice President of Capital Metro Area and Obie Patterson Councilman for Prince George Country, Maryland. We had entertainment by the Intruders Review Group. The morning was closed with Ron Stroman Deputy Postmaster General addressing the group.

Monday afternoon the business session of the convention started and Megan Brennan Postmaster General addressed the group. That evening we attended the welcome reception.

On Tuesday we resumed the business session of the convention and Dave Williams, Chief Operating Officer addressed the group. We also heard from Sean Acord, President of the National League of Postmasters, Tony Leonardi, President National Association of Postmasters and Bruce Moyer, NAPS Legislative and Legal Counsel.

Wednesday was an open day giving all delegates a chance to tour the Washington DC Area and enjoy a little R&R.

The business session started back up on Thursday morning. On Thursday afternoon we had the nominations of all 21 national officers and all cities, Cleveland OH, Grapevine TX, and Orlando FL that are hoping to host the 2020 convention.

Friday morning after the reading of all branches, 248 total, and how many electoral votes each branch has, ballots were passed out and voting took place. After the ballots were collected the delegates worked on unfinished business while waiting for the ballots to be counted. The result of the election were Brian Wagner, Executive President, Ivan Butt, Executive Vice President, Marilyn Walton, Western Region VP and Myrna Pashinski, Rocky Mountain Area VP. There was a tie for Executive Secretary/Treasurer and between Cleveland OH and Grapevine TX for the 2020 convention location. So that afternoon we had a run off and Chuck Muidore won the Executive Secretary/Treasurer position and Grapevine TX will be the site for the 2020 convention. All national officers were sworn in and the 2016 National Convention came to an end with the National Convention ball being held that night.
